![]() Well, I personally think that director John Krasinski came incredibly close to topping himself here. ![]() Not that a sequel needs to be better, but when you have a movie that good, it's very hard to even make something that comes remotely close. It was one of my absolute favourite films of 2018 and even though the ending was sort of left open, I just thought every aspect of the filmmaking made for a stellar film. More than anything, I was actually quite nervous (even though deliriously excited) to see a sequel to A Quiet Place. And if so, is the purpose to wipe out all living things for a future alien invasion?Īll of which makes A Quiet Place Part III very compelling. They were already fully formed when they arrived so its more likely a spaceship that crash landed. They never eat their prey - just killing as many as they could. They then immediately go on a seek and destroy mission killing anything that makes a noise. The "sound-monsters" crash land in a big meteor, asteroid or spaceship. There is so much potential for world-building based on new info provided about the "monster invasion" in part two. New addition Cillian Murphy, the GOAT of Danny Boyle's apocalypses (28 Days Later and Sunshine) is a good replacement for Krasinski's character- similar but different - a survivor that's slowly losing it. Just like in the first movie, the younger brother was one dimensional and had a constant freaked out look like he was going to crap his pants at any second. And it puts a spotlight on the stupid decisions the teens make that puts everybody in jeopardy. Unfortunately, the drawback of having the first and third acts be non-stop action, the middle arc drags and feels like a slog. The budget was clearly increased significantly so we get many more of those scenes. ![]() In fact every scene that features an encounter with the "sound-monsters" is gripping and intense. The opening sequence once the "apocalypse" begins is just fantastic. I normally would talk about "the experience of WATCHING a movie," but since I've started reviewing actively and losing my hearing, it's become the experience as a WHOLE - in my ability to be both immersed and entertained.Īnd boy was this entertaining. ![]() That personal experience was brought to life in the excellent use of sound - normal sound, no sound and the "sound of silence," sound from the perspective of someone that is completely deaf. Nine months ago I lost a chunk of hearing in that good ear and have since started wearing hearing aids. When I first saw the original Quiet Place in 2018, I could still hear perfectly in my good ear (the other one crapped out on me 20 years ago). Where the original begins in near complete silence, 89 days after the "sound-monster" apocalypse, the sequel starts on Day One with the "noisy" daily routine of the dynamic duo of real-life husband and wife John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, demonstrating their split-second survival instincts as "shit gets real" in a matter of minutes.īut back to the use of sound in both movies. ‘You know what would be great? Is if we keep this thing going…’ I think there’s… it would have to be that we would all do it together. That was the biggest impression I had from the opening sequence of A Quiet Place 2. We were sitting on a rooftop all together drinking wine and. Well, Cillian and I were having a chat with John about it last night. Blunt doesn't seem to be interested in letting someone else come on to helm the franchise, saying: After A Quiet Place II, Krasinski indicated that he was done directing for the franchise, hoping instead that someone else would take up that role while he focused on the story, but it seems like Blunt is having none of that, as she explained to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast. Naturally, Cillian Murphy has been privy to some of these discussions, considering they worked alongside each other in both Oppenheimer and A Quiet Place. While on the press tour for Oppenheimer prior to the strike, Blunt revealed that she and John Krasinski ( A Quiet Place's director and her husband) have been brainstorming about how to get the band back together for the threequel.
